Raising a Glass for Emily

Lyrics

[Verse 1] Since school days in Manchester, you’ve been by my side, With a kettle on when the hard days arrive. You make us a cuppa and somehow we’re through, The room feels a little more hopeful with you. [Chorus] Emily, today we’re raising a glass, To all of the kindness you give as you pass. Thirty looks lovely, and we hope you can see How much you mean to your friends and to me. You make every year feel warmer somehow— Happy birthday, Emily, we’re singing it now. [Verse 2] At the pub quiz you laugh louder than all, And soon every table is joining the call. You never forget us, not one birthday missed; You make every small day feel worth a little wish. [Chorus] Emily, today we’re raising a glass, To all of the kindness you give as you pass. Thirty looks lovely, and we hope you can see How much you mean to your friends and to me. You make every year feel warmer somehow— Happy birthday, Emily, we’re singing it now. [Bridge] From school corridors to nights out in town, You’ve been the one who can turn things around. So let us be there for you as you’ve been there for us; You’re loved more than words can say, Emily, trust us. [Final Chorus] Emily, today we’re raising a glass, To all of the kindness you give as you pass. Thirty looks lovely, and now you can see How much you mean to your friends and to me. For every cup of tea, every laugh, every year, We’re so glad you’re with us, so glad you are here. Happy birthday, Emily—here’s to you now; We love you, we’re grateful, we’re singing it loud.
